Moving Forward Study Day
‘He who can see inaction in action, and action in inaction, is the wisest among men.’
Bhagavad Gita, ch. 4, v.18
This is one of the most puzzling verses in the Bhagavad Gita. What could it possibly mean?
All of us perform actions all the time, whether we realise it or not, since even sitting is an action, and so is thinking. Since action is inevitable, an integral part of being alive, it would be helpful to know how the study and practice of philosophy can enlighten all of our actions. To extend your study of philosophy, SES students in Parts 4 to 12 are warmly invited to the Moving Forward Day at Brinscall Hall on Sunday 28th October 2018.
The theme for the day is action. We will explore how some simple principles related to being in the present moment, being awake, can ensure that our actions are efficient and result in happiness and freedom.
The structured programme will include quiet time, meditation, study and discussion, as well as practical work, such as preparing refreshments, light maintenance and gardening (optional and weather permitting). It provides the perfect opportunity to practise philosophy in the good company of our fellow students.
The day starts with registration and refreshments at 9.00am and finishes at 5.00pm. Lunch, which is vegetarian, and refreshments are included in the price which is £20.
